Rino Rappuoli receives the 2025 Maxwell Finland Award by NFID

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) has announced that Rino Rappuoli, Scientific Director of the Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena, is a recipient of the 2025 Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement.
The award is one of the most prestigious global honors in the field of infectious diseases. It recognizes scientific contributions that have had a lasting impact on public health.
Rappuoli has been a leading figure in vaccine research and development for over four decades. He has pioneered the use of reverse vaccinology, a groundbreaking process for vaccine development that has led to the first effective vaccine against meningococcus B. His work has shaped modern approaches to vaccine design and continues to influence global strategies for pandemic preparedness and prevention.
The award ceremony will take place on October 16, 2025, in Washington, DC. Rappuoli will be honored alongside Anne E. Goldfeld (Harvard Medical School) and Patricia N. Whitley-Williams (Rutgers University).
This award confirms the central position of Italian science in the global response to infectious diseases that Rappuoli now continues to push forward through the Fondazione Biotecnopolo di Siena, an expanding key player in international research and vaccine innovation.
